July 2020 - NBCRNA Credentialing staff have been working with Pearson VUE representatives for several months to provide National Certification Examination (NCE) and Self-Evaluation Examination (SEE) testing access to active duty military at select US military base sites. Periodically, individuals have been deployed soon after completing their nurse anesthesia educational program. This has applied to both civilian students who have post-graduation commitments with the armed services as well as active duty service in our military programs. In these cases, the graduate may experience a significant delay post-deployment until they are able to take their NCE. On-base testing provides defense employees with the opportunity to conveniently test where they serve.
The on-base Pearson VUE test centers support these individuals to become CRNAs during service and to help diminish the delay, cost and interruption associated with arranging state-side testing, if that option is even available. The military channel went live on June 29 and can now support NCE testing needs at select US military bases in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific. This option is only available to active duty military with valid government ID and authorization to enter the base.
In light of concerns with the Coronavirus pandemic, the COA has established a process to closely monitor COVID-19’s impact on nurse anesthesia programs. For the latest COA Statements and information here.
Resource for Doctoral Students: Research Topics
In response to requests by the CRNA community, the NBCRNA Evaluation and Research Advisory Committee (ERAC) has developed a list of Research Topics related to CRNA continuing education, certification, and recertification. These topics are intended to serve as a resource for anesthesia students and practicing CRNAs who are seeking a Doctorate in Philosophy (PhD), Nursing (DNP), or Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP). Video: Working Together to Support Students and CRNAs
The NBCRNA, AANA, COA, and AANA Foundation have worked together on a series of videos for student registered nurse anesthetists to help describe each organization’s function. These videos will also help students better understand how they can interact with each organization as they progress through their training and career. The organizations work together to support nurse anesthetists throughout their career. See More at our Youtube channel!
